Using Small Dog Bark Collar

January 4th, 2010

Dog barking collars are the ideal answer to excessive dog barking. This may be just the thing you need to manage your pet that barks too much. But before you try barking collars, try to find the reason your dog is barking so much and if you do find what’s troubling it, then all you need to do is take the necessary steps to do away with the cause. But keeping a small dog bark collar handy would always be a good idea.

Typically a small dog bark collar is a collar that fits dogs of any size as they are the adjustable type. There are any numbers of reasons why dogs bark and in spite of the fact that you are extremely fond of your canine pet, enough to say that unnecessary barking gets on your nerves. This is when a small dog bark collar really comes in useful.

There are different varieties of dog barking collars that are available in the market these days. Some of them to mention a few are: the shock collars, the ultrasonic bark collars, the spray dog collars etc.

The shock collars are said to be the most effective of all barking collars. It works on the principle of producing a teeny weenie bit of shock to the dog when it begins to bark, so the dog promptly stops barking. Generally these type of collars work well on all dogs, but will not be effective for long.

The next one is the ultrasonic bark collar that makes a shrill pitched sound which can be heard only by the dog when it barks. Most dogs hate this sound, so when they hear they immediately stop barking. The weak point of these barking collars is that they are not effective on dogs that are hard of hearing.

The spray bark collar or the Citronella bark collar releases a rather strong smell of either citronella or lemon when your dog barks and this though absolutely harmless on the dog, bothers them. Like the other dog barking collars this too will start working when the dogs starts barking, preventing them from barking too much.

Many people are of the opinion that a small dog bark collar should not be used on dogs as they are being subjected to shock or other unnatural means to prevent their barking. But there are others who feel that the shock or the spray is so minimal that it is in no way going to affect the dogs.

Of course the fact remains that you can train your dog not to bark, but there are situations when a small dog bark collar will come in useful. The point is never to leave it on permanently on you pet because you will be astonished at how soon they get used to such devices and then it becomes pretty useless.
